In a sequence or even in a single image, there is always a narrative. There is an expected relationship, a story, real or imagined. It is almost impossible not to envisage a connection even when the content seems unconnected or there is an arbitrary sequence. I\u2019m referring to the linking of images into a casual story; the association of ideas.
\nBut as this happens anyway it is nothing I can usefully work with and I try not to worry about it. Over analysing just doesn\u2019t lead anyplace useful.
\nIt is far more interesting when the links in a narrative system are slightly broken. Then there are departure points, the relationships are not so perfect or predictable. The interpretations can be more open.
\nI like this region of half-truths and questioned expectations mainly because it needs less preparation. But most importantly it is a lot easier to manage as well.
\nJust point the camera. They came, they sat and they were photographed.
