The bits of data are laid out following the same conventions as a page of text. The numbers that represent or define the actual sound of the performance are streamed off the recording and individually coloured by value, then layered so that the left and right channels are combined to produce a \u2018mono\u2019 rendition of the piece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 330px;\">It is almost possible to see the main characteristics of the recording enfolding across and down the image.\u00a0 Grand rhythmic passages tend to produce strong contrasting regions and quieter or more uniform sections generate long tonally less diverse strips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 330px;\">Selecting a suitable width, for the initial recipient picture, enables the main repetitive sections to be stacked vertically down the picture plain. For example, \u2018Another Green World\u2019 is from a short segment by Brian Eno, rendered in a very geometric manner. On the other hand, Nick Cave\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/teoman-art.com\/?p=861&amp;page=2\" target=\"_blank\">The Weeping Song<\/a>\u2019 is the full piece, except the middle section (the central indentation) is cut and folded back over itself to make room.<br \/>\nSometimes, in an attempt to maintain the stereo effect, the left and right channels are treated differently before combining, leading to a layered dual interpretation, as in \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/teoman-art.com\/?p=861&amp;page=3\" target=\"_blank\">Everything Merges With the Night<\/a>\u2019 another piece by Eno.<br \/>\nDespite having taken these liberties, there is still a direct traceable lineage across the media from the digitally interpreted music to the final image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 330px;\">At the heart of the transformations is the notion that these images are derived and created with, not just on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aesthetics-online.org\/articles\/index.php?articles_id=43\" target=\"_blank\">computer<\/a>. Its intervention is crucially part of the final result, not a convenient way of achieving it.
