“The computer is the medium, miss-creation the inspiration.”
This collection of pictures are based on the fundamental characteristics of the digital medium, reinterpreted, exaggerated and reconstructed. These images are derived and created solely with computers whose subsequent intervention is a crucial part of the final outcome. Subsumed by a great deal of iteration in the processing, the identity of the subject is occluded and transformed. These are pictures ‘recreated’ by the medium.
Of course computers can be very precise and when asked to do so under normal operating conditions will repeat a task perfectly millions of times. But outside normal operating conditions the results can be erratic. I’m very drawn to this aspect. Perhaps it is because I can pretend I’m seeing the vulnerable side of these perfect machines.
