“My other memory is that I think I was asked to leave about seven times.”

In college as a project we had to produce one hundred drawings, all by Friday! I left it till a few days before as usual and then had to rush through it. One hundred drawings are a lot to do when you are in a hurry. So a completely different approach was needed. What a great assignment it turned out to be. It is the only one I can clearly remember after all these years. I learnt a lot then and it is an approach I sometimes still employ.

My other memory is that I think I was asked to leave about seven times. That in itself shows commitment from both staff and student.
I must have been quite un-teachable. They didn’t see salvation in me and soon gave up. So I was left to my own devices most of the time. Except one occasion they insisted I go down to the National Gallery and look at some proper art. I remember going. The wheels were turning but the engine wasn’t switched on.
