“There is a bit of uncertainty and a little bit of deception in most of my work and that is the point. “
The technologist process of degeneration/re-definition can be repeated until the medium dominates the image. The original message, almost lost, has become the medium.
What does the message in the medium say?
It says:- “I distort, I corrupt myself, I can be easily altered by others, don’t believe me, I’m not dependable.”
This is why there is a bit of uncertainty and a little bit of deception in most of my work and that is the point.
Some of what I do is still based on technologist ideas. I now use them to give shape to how I think about my work, because there are still some elements that I find interesting. But I’ve discovered that interesting ideas don’t always look good and good ideas don’t always look interesting.
Perhaps ideas alone are only half the story and only half of something just isn’t going to work. In the end painting is so much more than covering an area with colour. Isn’t that called decorating?
